TAPESTRY AND OUR VISION

Tapestry is a CNBC fellowship that meets at the Canadian Baptist Theological

Seminary & College each Sunday with an average of around 70 people of all ages

each week. Due to our location and our ministries, a number of seminary students

fellowship with us, both single and with their families. The majority of Tapestry

people come from the surrounding Cochrane community. We are privileged to have

helped start several new congregations by sending our members into God’s

kingdom in missions and ministry service. Tapestry church is a gospel family, being

transformed by Jesus for the blessing of our community. We believe God has made

us a family through the death and resurrection of Jesus and as a result we are a

church committed to living out our identity as a Gospel Family.

Biblical Teaching

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and

training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for

every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

SENIOR PASTOR

Tapestry Church is seeking a Senior Pastor who shares our vision of being a gospel

family, a blessing to our community, and is enthusiastic about continuing to grow

our various church ministries.

MINISTRIES

• Children: Sunday school for children (preschool and grades 1-5) is held

during the worship services each week.

• Youth: The youth meet once a week for bible study and activities.

• Women: Events held at special times of the year such as Christmas.

• Men: Different men’s events are held throughout the year including

breakfasts and campouts.

• Adults: Adult Bible Study each Sunday before the worship service, and

discipleship small groups.

• Outreach Ministries: Single mom’s oil change

• Summer ministries: Backyard Kids Camps (with 2 other Cochrane churches),

outreach soccer camps, Summer Youth Celebration (CNBC Alberta youth

camp for grades 6-12)

• Fun Stuff: Annual church camp-out, sledding, church Christmas party, and

chili cookoff.

• Aspen Network: Tapestry is a vital part of the Aspen Church Planting

Network, starting and nurturing new churches in the Calgary area.

PASTOR QUALIFICATIONS

The qualifications for the Senior Pastor shall be consistent with those listed in

1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1: 6-9.

He must love the Lord his God with all his heart and with all his soul and all his

mind and with all his strength. And he must love the family of God and the people

outside the family as he loves himself, Mark 12: 29-31.

PASTOR TRAINING AND SKILLS

• Ministry training degree.

• Previous experience in a pastoral role. Including teaching, preaching and

leadership.

• Must be an effective communicator and approachable.

• Able to provide pastoral care to a congregation of various ages.

FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities for the Senior Pastor Role

• Responsibilities fall into the following areas: Preaching, teaching, forming

Godly vision, pastoral counselling, administrative oversight, planning, and

guiding Tapestry to grow and fulfill its purposes.

• To live a life of private and public integrity before his family and

congregation.

• A committed Christian leader and partner of the Elders.

• He shall lead and equip Tapestry and all its leaders to fulfill its values and

practices.

• The pastor shall be an ex-officio member of all ongoing teams except the

Pastor Search Team.

• He shall work with the Elders to secure pulpit supply during his absence.

• The pastor will have scriptural mentoring relationships with the Elders and

church leadership. He will also be encouraged to have a mentor to support

and strengthen his ministry at Tapestry.

PRACTICAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities

• Preaching: Development of a Preaching Team and Sermon Calendar.

• Sunday Gatherings: Oversight for various teams (worship, kids, set-up, etc.)

on Sunday mornings.

• Discipleship: Development and implementation, along with the Elders, of a

holistic discipleship strategy.

• Leadership Development: Active mentoring of staff, leaders, and volunteers.

• Church Planting & Missions: Since church planting and missions is one of the

core characteristics of Tapestry, we expect the pastor to keep this value

before our congregation and encourage our members to participate.

• Team Leadership: Leading the Elders, Staff, Preaching, and other teams as

necessary.

• Pastoral Care: Active relationship building with members and visitors to

Tapestry.
