Requesting Summer or Semester Missionaries For Your Church

Missions / Partnerships and Volunteers / Students

Churches, Pastors, Leaders:

If you are interested in requesting NAMB summer missionaries for 2011,

you must fill out the application and have it into Mel Cruikshank's

office by Friday July 30, 2010. This will assure that NAMB promotes and advertises your request to State conventions and on their website.  Later  requests may still be made but they will not receive any where near the promotion as those received by July 30.

Semester Missionaries can be requested at any time. The same form is used to request either summer or semester missionaries. Semester missionaries normally serve Sept-Dec, Jan-April and/or May-August. Semester missionaries can renew their term of service for up to 5 semesters.  It takes up to 4 months to process a semester missions request  and application so make your request well ahead of time.

NAMB continues to be very gracious to us in Canada, helping us fill many of the summer and semester missions requests made from churches and ministries across Canada. However not all positions are filled each year as many more request are made than students available to fill them. The sooner you get your request in, the better are your chances to receive missionaries

If you request and receive a summer or semester missionary, you are responsible to provide the student missionaries:

• Food & housing/utilities
• Operation/program budget
• Transportation on the field
• Supervision, orientation, & debriefing

If you cannot cover the above expenses, then in your application request, you must list the dollar amount that the student must bring with them to cover those expenses.

on the application please fill out all the sections as thoroughly as possible.

Here are some suggestions you should consider:

1. Dates of Service for summer missions.
There are more students available for a 3 to 5 week commitment than for a 6 to 8 week commitment. Remember, that many students (especially Americans) have to be back to their universities by the middle of August. So, if you put your ending date at August 20th, the vast majority of students will just pass your request by and not even consider it. I suggest you set the ending date no later than August 2nd or 3rd.

2. Provision for Student Missionaries
You fill all of this section out, except the Convention Supervisor section. Mel fills that out.

3. Ministry Description and Purpose
This is the KEY to students responding. As they read over more than 3000 requests sent in from churches across North America, this is what will or will not catch their eye. Make your description creative and interesting. Don’t just say they will do VBS, BBC, and surveys. Hundreds of requests have that written format. Write it so that the student will say, “wow, that church is making a difference in the world and I want to give my summer to help them".
