So they (scribes, priests, and Sadducees) called for them and ordered them not to preach or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it’s right in the sight of God [for us] to listen to you rather than to God, you decide; for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” After threatening them further, they released them. They found no way to punish them, because the people were all giving glory to God over what had been done; After they were released, Peter and John went to their own fellowship and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. When they heard this, they raised their voices to God unanimously... When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak God’s message with boldness.

The Point @ UBC helps host Debate between Christian Dr. William Craig, and secularist Dr. John Shook

On January 29, 2008, The Point @ UBC, a university community church that meets at the University of British Columbia, participated with other Christian ministries at UBC to host  a number of lectures by Christian apologist Dr. William Craig, and then a debate between Dr. William Craig and Dr. John Shook.  An intense hostility toward Christianity that exists at the UBC campus became apparent at this debate.

Sanctuary West Mission Trip to Cambodia Spring 2007.

In spring 2007 a team of students from Sanctuary West (University Community Churches) in Hamilton went to Cambodia. Their pastor, Bob Royce sends this report:

I want to share a few brief blurbs about what God is doing among the Khmer Krom in SE Asia

• We did several teaching/training sessions in which folks had to travel great distances and cross the border illegally to come to the secret meeting location. Check this out…
  • One brother who lost his left leg as a soldier walked 6 kilometers with his wooden prosthetic, crossed a river, made it over the border to the rendezvous location more

Seeking A Man of Peace: Jeremy Langley on mission in Indonesia:
Padang in West Sumatra & Makassar in Sulawesi.

I was told that there was a need for someone to come to Makassar to reach the Bugis people (historically famous pirates from which the name "boogeyman" was derived), and that we currently had no personnel in this outpost. It was my hope to just see the place, do some prayer walking, perhaps meet some people who spoke a little English, and hear a word from the Lord. . . .

I still can't get over how beautiful it was! But in the midst of this paradise I sensed a powerful spiritual darkness - that holds the Minang people of West Sumatra in its oppressive grip. The Minang are neglected - forgotten - and I'm going to assume that very few prayers are lifted up on their behalf by God's people. Please take a few minutes and pray for them. more

The Point@UBC. A new church plant at the UBC campus in Vancouver

The Point@UBC church plant became official on October 14th and we had our first service coinciding with the Catalyst 2006 conference held in Vancouver. Since then, we have as many as five visitors coming by besides the regular group of worshippers numbering between seven to ten peopleAs part of our continuous calling to be at UBC, we indeed see the hand of God working here through things that were beyond our own imaginations and planning. We are thankful that He is willing to use us and indeed we are humbled by the new friends that we came to know in the last months more

What a way to celebrate! Baptisms at the McMaster Pool

Hi Friends,

We wanted to share with you a few pics of a couple of baptisms we celebrated early last Wednesday morning at the pool on the McMaster campus. About 30 folks rolled out of bed at 8:30 am to rejoice with BD and Yolanda while folks were cranking out their early morning laps in the pool. BD is a post-doc research professor at Mac in the Math faculty. He has a heart for evangelism and prayer. Yolanda is a 2nd year student from the Bahamas. We’ve included her story for your encouragement. more

Catalyst: 2006 The largest gathering of student and young adults in the history of the Capilano Southern Baptist Association.

Catalyst was our attempt at following God’s promptings to put together a regional gathering greater than any one of us could pull off alone. To do this our team spent a lot of time praying, planning, and preparing for what would become the largest gathering of students and young adults in the history of our Capilano Southern Baptist Association. The focus was to gather students and young adults from across the Lower Mainland and the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, and Idaho) in downtown Vancouver, and let them see and experience the needs we have in reaching Greater Vancouver for Christ.

Mel Cruikshank's Cross-Canada Ministry Travel Blog. A brief look at some of the Collegiate Ministries happening in Canada

Sept. and October, 2006 have been exciting months for collegiate ministry all across Canada.

We have heard amazing stories of God drawing students to Himself during the opening weeks of the new year. I am amazed at the diversity of outreach efforts being done through our campus ministries, university community churches, and church sponsored collegiate ministries.

This month I have had a tremendous opportunity to travel across much of our nation, visiting with many people who are leading collegiate ministries. In this report I will share a pictorial travel blog talking about the various ministries and needs that I encountered. more

The CCM Network on Mission in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Chinook Collegiate Ministry (CCM) Network is a network of church based collegiate ministries and college & university based collegiate ministries from the Calgary, Alberta community. Churches, Chaplaincies, the CSB Seminary and Baptist Student Ministries have united to provide worship, ministry opportunities, missions opportunities and student training for students from all the post-secondary institutions in Calgary. International Missions in Botswana schools.

Calvin McElroy tells of serving God for 2 months in Gabarone, Botswana, Africa.

This past spring I got to embark on a mission trip that took me to the other end of the world, to a country called Botswana in the southern part of Africa. I was invited to Botswana by Todd Jones, a graduate from our CSB Seminary. Todd and his wife Lisa and their two boys, Landon and Kendall have been serving there in the capital city, Gabarone, for two years. Over the past school year I found that god was calling me to give part of my summer to do missions, but I have to admit I was reluctant to think that meant serving internationally. This being my first mission trip, I wasn’t sure about going over seas and giving up and entire two months of my break but God’s plans are always bigger than our own. I kept reading the emails Todd had sent me and decided that’s were I felt God wanted me to go. More
